Can You Smoke on a Royal Caribbean Cruise?

Royal Caribbean ships are mostly non-smoking environments, but smoking is allowed in a few specific locations. You cannot smoke in your stateroom, and you cannot smoke on your balcony. Both are strictly prohibited, and fines can be issued if smoke is detected.

If your cruise departs from a U.S. port, you must be 21 or older to smoke or use any tobacco or vaping products. For cruises sailing from international ports, the age drops to 18, following local laws.

Although the ships are non-smoking indoors, every Royal Caribbean ship provides designated smoking areas. These vary by vessel, but typically include:

  • A section of the casino
  • One side of the upper outdoor deck (look for posted signs)
  • On some of the larger ships, additional outdoor smoking zones on lower decks

These are the only approved places to smoke or vape. Anywhere else including promenades, hallways, restaurants, pool decks, or private balconies is off-limits.

If you’re unsure where the smoking areas are on your specific ship, check the deck plan in the Royal Caribbean app or look for signage once onboard. The areas are clearly marked and easy to find.
