Many people online complain about long lines to get through Port Everglades security before reaching the cruise terminal. While this can be an issue for some terminals, Disney Cruise Line uses the Heron Parking Garage, which allows you to avoid the main port security checkpoint entirely if you approach the port the right way.
To do this, take 17th Street to Eisenhower Boulevard and turn east directly into the Heron Parking Garage. This route brings you straight to the Disney terminal area without going through the commercial shipping port security, which is where traffic tends to back up.
Do not follow Google Maps directions blindly. Google often routes drivers through the southern entrance of the port, where everyone is required to stop and show ID before entering. This is the slowest way in and the source of most traffic complaints.
If you enter from 17th Street, Terminal 4 is located before you ever reach port security. Using this route can save you a significant amount of time and stress on embarkation day, especially during peak sailing seasons.
