One of the most common questions in Disney Cruise Line Facebook groups is whether the location of your stateroom affects how much pixie dusting you receive. For those new to the tradition, pixie dusting refers to the random acts of gifting from fellow cruisers. Small surprises are placed in your fish extender, the pocketed bag hanging from the fish shaped hook outside your stateroom door. It is a fun and generous tradition that adds a little extra magic to the sailing.
While pixie dusting is never guaranteed, stateroom location can absolutely play a role in how much traffic your fish extender sees. On our most recent cruise, guests staying at the very back of the ship mentioned they received very few items. Some were even posting in the Facebook group asking others to make the walk down to their end of the ship. When cabins are tucked away at the far aft, they can be easy to skip, especially late at night when people are making quick delivery rounds.
Midship cabins, on the other hand, tend to benefit from convenience. Hallways in the center of the ship usually see more foot traffic and are easier to access from elevators and stairwells. Our midship cabin received pixie dust every single day, right up to the last night of the cruise. It was clear that being in a central location made it easier for fellow cruisers to stop by without going out of their way.
Of course, pixie dusting depends entirely on the generosity and planning of the group you are sailing with. Cabin location is just one factor. If participating is important to you, consider joining an organized fish extender group before sailing and choosing a stateroom that is convenient to access. A little planning can go a long way in making sure your family experiences as much magic as possible.
